Counseling, Advising and Retention Services

Advising services for Distance Learning students (continued)

The Career and Transfer Resource Center offers many free online services via the web, at www.aacc.edu/careers, such as:

  • AACC’s JobConnection database is powered by College Central Network and provides job search assistance and free employer job postings that students can access to connect with employers. Resumes posted at the site can be reviewed by employers who will then contact students for interviews.
  • Optimal Resume is an extremely innovative online resume site where students can create, present, and style up to five resumes and interact with a Career Counselor to have resumes reviewed and approved quickly. Resumes can be displayed in traditional MS Word or as personal websites in Flash. (Please note that your MyAACC email is required to use this service).
  • Online guides for Resume Writing, Interviewing, Dressing for Success, Negotiating Salaries, and Portfolio Development. Students will have access to useful links for additional/updated information at the end of each guide.
  • There is also a Calendar of Events linked to Career Fair and Recruiting Events at AACC and throughout the metropolitan area.
  • DISCOVER is an online career-planning system that students can access from any computer. A token is needed to use DISCOVER so please call 410-777-2201 to get your token. Using DISCOVER, students can:
    • Investigate career exploration;
    • Take interest, abilities and values inventories;
    • Search for majors and colleges;
    • Conduct resume preparation; and
    • Research interview preparation.
  • In-person career assessments are available to distance learning students who can meet with a career counselor at any of our locations to take these assessments:
    • Myers Briggs Type Indicator (personality assessment);
    • Self-Directed Search (interest inventory); and
    • Strong Interest Inventory.
  • VAULT, the world’s leading source of career information, is an excellent career resource for students and is another online service offered by Career Services. VAULT will make your efforts at researching employers, industries, and career subjects infinitely easier and more efficient:
    • Visit Career Services at www.aacc.edu/careers, click on the Vault Online Library icon, and your journey begins. If you have any questions, please call Career Services at 410-777-2201.
  • To follow up with a Career Counselor for individual appointments on any career-related issue, you can email Career Services at CTRC@aacc.edu.

Transfer Services offers both online and campus-based resources if you are intending to transfer as you will need to plan carefully.

  • When you visit the Transfer Services Web site at www.aacc.edu/transfer for guidance and resources, be sure to make a copy of the “Guide for Creating a Successful Transfer.” The Transfer Services website is designed to assist you with the various steps in the transfer process that are enumerated in the “Guide.”
  • The Career and Transfer Resource Center, located in SSVC 200, maintains many of the same resources in a traditional format. Your assigned Advisor will assist you in developing an educational plan to ensure a seamless transfer. Contact your Advisor online or make an appointment for an office visit.

Students with disabilities can register with Disability Support Services (DSS) to receive reasonable course accommodations for both online and on-campus courses.

  • The DSS office is located on the second floor of the Student Services Building and is a part of CARS.
  • Questions regarding services for students with disabilities taking on-campus or online courses can be addressed by calling 410-777-2306 or by e-mailing DSS@aacc.edu.
  • Further DSS information, including disability verification documentation, and the DSS Policies and Procedures handbook, can be accessed through AACC’s Web site at www.aacc.edu/advising/DSSwelcome.
