Teaching Grants and Scholarships

In addition to the general grant, loan, and scholarship programs described on the financial aid Web site, there are several special aid programs targeted directly toward students pursuing teaching degrees.

Federal TEACH Grant

The federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program provides grants of up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. This program does not require students to demonstrate any financial need. For more information, visit www.teachgrant.ed.gov.

AACC Foundation Scholarships

The AACC Foundation also offers several scholarships targeted toward teaching students (Ernest and Lena Florestano Scholarship, Drs. Robert E. and Lila R. Schwartz Scholarship, Lisa Lynn Troyer Memorial Scholarship, and the Beverly H. Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship). To apply for all foundation scholarships, please complete the AACC Institutional Scholarship Application.

Maryland Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant

The Maryland Higher Education Commission offers this grant to students who plan to work in certain career fields including teaching. For more information, visit the MHEC web site.
