An extraordinary individual

Don lost his battle to cancer on June 13, 2008. In his six-year tenure (2002-2007) he proved his skills as a coach, and his dedication to the student-athletes in the softball program at AACC.

  • His teams finished nationally ranked every year except one (2007) in NJCAA Division III
  • NJCAA Region XX and District "H" champions every year except 2007
  • NJCAA Region XX and District "H" Coach of the Year every year except 2007
  • NJCAA final rankings of his teams (prior to tournament): 2002- 2nd, 2003-1st, 2004-4th, 2005-5th, 2006-1st
  • Produced 16 All American players in the NJCAA and NFCA
  • Won the NJCAA Division III national championship in 2003 and he was the National Coach of the Year
  • Other national championship finishes: 2nd in 2002, 4th in 2004, 5th in 2005, 3rd in 2006
  • National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coach of the Year in 2003
  • Maryland JUCO champions and he was the JUCO Coach of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2006
  • Don was recognized at the 2008 AACC athletics awards ceremony for his outstanding contributions to AACC athletics. His daughter Kristen Bishoff accepted the plaque.
