Business Support Specialist

Be competitive in today’s tough job market and begin your career in office administration with training that builds solid office, business and computer skills. This training is perfect for people entering the workforce or changing careers. 

This accelerated cohort program is now offered in the hybrid format. 
Most of the schoolwork is done online but you will be required to attend class twice a week at the Glen Burnie Town Center


 

Daytime (2 days a week for 16 weeks)

Mandatory classroom sessions:
Tuesdays and Thursdays
8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. 


What is the job outlook?
The average annual salary of administrative assistants is $36,000 and expected to grow by 11 percent through 2018, which is about as fast as average for all occupations.

What is the training?
This accelerated cohort program consists of six classes that can be taken in a 16 week daytime hybrid or in a evening hybrid format in 24 weeks. Students learn office management, communications, word processing and spreadsheet management. Total Hours: 240

What courses will I take?
Students must register for all six courses at the same time.

BPA 111 or BNS 389 - Business and Its Environment
BPA 141 or BNS 392 - Business Office Management 1
BPA 151 or BNS 390 - Business Office Management 2
BPA 162 or BNS 389 - Business Communications
CSI 120 or CTR 320 - Personal Computer Word Processing Applications
CSI 126 or CTR 341 - Personal Computer Information Management Applications

What credentials can I earn?
If taken for credit, students can earn 20 credits and a certificate in Business Management. If taken for noncredit, students earn a continuing education certificate.

What will it cost?
$2600 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees

Financial Aid: Maryland Part-Time Grants are available for credit courses. Students must demonstrate financial need and register for at least 6, and not more than 11 credits that lead to a degree or certificate. What are the requirements?
Student must have a high school diploma or have passed the GED exam and demonstrate eligibility for “Composition and Introduction to Literature” (ENG 111). For more information about this requirement, consult the college catalog or contact the program coordinator.
