Earn Your CDL Class A License

Our CDL A course is available as a 16-day week day series or an 8-week weekend series. In order to enroll in the courses you must meet the following guidelines:

  • 18 years or older (to drive in Maryland) 21 years or older (to drive interstate)
  • possess a good driving record
  • be able to read road signs and maps in English

You must be committed to a training period attending both the classroom lecture courses at the Anne Arundel Community College, Glen Burnie location and the driving range and highway training in Baltimore.

If you would like to learn more, a mandatory pre-registration interview is required. You can make these arrangements by calling Jim Wright at 410-777-2935.

The CDL A course consists of two 80-hour classes. When you go to Anne Arundel Community College to register for these classes, you are automatically signed up for both classes. You cannot register for them separately.

OCA-334 CDL Class A Part I - Operation 
This course prepares students to pass the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Commercial Drivers License Class A examination and road test.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Discuss requirements of the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations (FMCSR) 
  • Demonstrate understanding of National Safety Council guidelines for basic control, speed and space management, emergency procedures and hazardous driving conditions
  • Demonstrate methods used to document loads and requirements for hazardous materials 
  • Demonstrate mastery of proper methods for doing pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections 
  • Demonstrate malfunction recognition and reporting procedures and procedures for accident scenes

OCA-335 CDL Class A Part II - Control Skills 
This course prepares students to pass the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Commercial Drivers License Class A examination and road test.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate backing maneuvers and straight line movement of the vehicle
  • Demonstrate ability to couple and uncouple the vehicle
  • Demonstrate the ability to accomplish sight-side and blind-site parking maneuvers
  • Demonstrate skid control
  • Demonstrate daytime and nighttime driving
  • Demonstrate driving under simulated/real hazardous conditions
