Plant Species Collection

The first step in the process of creating and restoring wetlands is to collect native species of plants.

Collected plants serve as key components of the type of wetlands to be restored. These plants and their seeds, bulbs, rhizomes, or other propagule are studied in the lab to establish a propagation and production strategy. Small-scale testing of these production strategies is often conducted to evaluate costs and efficiency of the production methodology. At Anne Arundel Community College, students and staff make the collections and perform the experiments needed to define the requirements for high volume production.
