Environmental Monitoring

Patterns

Short term monitoring of Cove Point fish traps yielded interesting results. We have found Cove Point Marsh to be a dynamic system.

Salinity, water levels, temperature and vegetation cover change rapidly over the course of a season and between seasons. The fish community reflects this. Population numbers vary considerably over short time frames, and the most abundant species are those capable of adapting to changing conditions. Shown here are some of the more common species. Understanding the long-term patterns of the marsh and its fish community requires continued monitoring.
