Before becoming a full-time AACC faculty member in 2019, Luke Fredericks represented condemned prisoners on Alabama’s death row as an attorney at the Equal Justice Initiative. He also worked as a trial attorney with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender and served as Georgetown University’s pre-law advisor.
Although Fredericks liked full-time “lawyering,” teaching is his passion. Before he began his legal career at New York University School of Law, he taught high school English with the Peace Corps in West Africa and later worked as an LSAT (Law School Admission Test) instructor in Berkeley, Calif.
Fredericks has taken every chance to teach in whatever capacity he could: English literature in a small village in Liberia, public speaking in San Quentin state prison, sailing lessons on the San Francisco Bay and more. He has loved it all, but he especially enjoys teaching at AACC.
