applied foresight... using the perspective

The future of public service looks brighter than ever thanks to the work of The Mission Continues. This organization provides public service opportunities for post-9/11 veterans through six month long fellowships, awarded on the local level. Building on the service skills these veterans have already demonstrated, the fellows serve with a community service non-profit organization which addresses environmental, social or educational issues. While serving the community in this way the fellows are also connecting with opportunities for full-time employment and an ongoing role in public service.

futures thinking... looking ahead

"DeExtinction" - or, undoing extinction - is an exciting idea posed by serious scientists to recover DNA from animal remains and fossils and revive extinct species. Though seen by some as a problem of ethics or ecology, support and scientific investigation has continued to grow. Dominic Basulto of The Washington Post calls it "the mind-blowing idea of the year." Public awareness took off with a feature in National Geographic magazine. The idea caught the attention of the Long Now Foundation, which sponsored the TEDxDeExtinction event on March 15th, 2013.  A very good resource to get you started is our contributing editor's YouTube playlist on DeExtinction, composed just for the FuturePortal.
