Sustainable, equitable practices promote a healthier tomorrow. Too often the poor have born the brunt of living and working with hazardous conditions. The Office of Environmental Justice of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency works to promote equal protection for people from environmental and health hazards. Clark Atlanta University operates an extensive environmental justice resource center Web page about these issues and endeavors.

Ten U.S. states have recently begun carbon offset trading with the goal of reducing carbon dioxide gas emissions, a major greenhouse gas. According to Derik Broekhoff of the World Resources Institute, this trading needs a consistent accounting system in order to accomplish its goal.
