As drought conditions seemingly spread, the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln follows a multifaceted study approach. It includes monitoring, planning, projecting impacts, and designing mitigation initiatives - in the hope of averting crisis situations.
What about the future of childhood? Futurist and author Richard Louv writes about the nuturing (and increasingly absent) relationship between children's development and the exploration of nature.

What can the "creative economy" do to enhance the changing nature of the US economy? Over the years it has changed from manufacturing to more services based, with job losses in some sectors. Developing the economy associated with the creative arts not only spurs business growth and jobs, but also the development of personal creativity. It is still not too late to register for the 2007 World Future Conference, "Fostering Hope and Vision for the 21st Century", in Minneapolis, MN from July 29-31. You can register on the conference Web site. If you are going, be sure to sign up for the workshop entitled, "So You Want to Teach the Future?", presented by IF @ AACC advisory board members. The workshop provides a lot of great "how to" information that can be used to build a futures course.
