Assisted Living Management


In response to the state of Maryland new assisted living manager certification regulations, AACC is pleased to offer two new state-approved courses—the 80-hour training course for new managers and the 20-hour recertification courses for existing managers.

Who will benefit from this training?
Assisted living manager or soon-to-be manager working in an assisted living facility with five or more beds will benefit from one of these courses. 

What is the training?
These face-to-face continuing education courses are held at the Arnold campus and Glen Burnie Town Center. To receive your certification, you must attend all courses and pass the final exam.

What will I learn?
The 80-hour certification course includes instruction on business management and operation, admission and discharge criteria, clinical management of residents and emergency planning. The 20-hour update course covers philosophy of care, the aging process, service plans and the management of a clinical environment.

What is the job outlook?
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of medical and health services managers is expected to grow by 16 percent during the decade ending 2016, which is faster than average for all occupations. Job opportunities should be good, especially for applicants with work experience in the health care field and strong business management skills. The average earnings for health service managers in nursing care facilities and home health care services is more than $66,500.

What credentials will I earn?
Students will receive CEUs.

Anyone age 16 years old or older can enroll in either of these courses, but to achieve certification, students must be 21 years old or older and have a high school diploma or GED. Students seeking re-certification may be required to have a four-year college degree, two years experience in a health care related field and one year of experience as an assisted living program manager or alternate assisted living manager. What will it cost?
Anne Arundel County residents $325 for the 20-hour course and $950 for the 80-hour course. Prices are subject to change.
