Born in the borough of Manhattan, New York City, Dr. Rita Victoria Gomez earned her B.A. degree from Pace University and her M.A degree from Sacramento State University, California. Dr. Gomez was awarded her Ph.D from George Washington University.
Dr. Gomez has been at AACC since 1990. An active member of the department, she is advisor to the AACC History Club and the World War II Roundtable.
Dr. Gomez has published numerous publications and is an acknowledged expert as well as consultant to the Department of Defense on Women in the Military. She has presented papers at many conferences throughout the United States.
Dr. Gomez teaches the survey of Western Civilization, with an emphasis on Social History. She also teaches both American and European Women's History courses. A military historian, she also offers courses on Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. She has innovated many of the department's two week interim courses including The Titanic, a History of Washington, D.C., and a course on the Vietnam War.
Dr. Gomez lives in St. Margarets, Annapolis with three very pampered canine companions.
