The Internship Experience

On an internship, students apply classroom theories to real-world professional practice. An internship is work-based learning that can be credit or noncredit, and paid or unpaid. Credit is awarded through an internship course that runs simultaneously with the work-based experiential learning. A typical three credit hour internship course requires 90-120 work-based hours under the supervision of a workplace mentor.  Weekly faculty advising helps the student attain learning objectives.

How can the Internship Office help me?

The role of the Internship Office is to assist students, faculty members and employers in creating unique engaged learning experiences. The Internship Program Coordinator:

  • Serves as a single point of contact for campus-wide internship issues
  • Coaches students’ professional development
  • Cultivates new community partnerships
  • Serves as a liaison with departments and helps coordinate students’ interests with internship opportunities
  • Facilitates employer internship postings and student searches
Certain schools of study at AACC must address state requirements for their internships and consequently have staff specifically dedicated to tend to those issues. Learn more about these schools of study.
