A+ Certification

Advance your career in technology with this important certification offered through AACC's School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Courses are noncredit and many are offered online.

What is A+ Certification?
A+ certification is an industry-wide, vendor neutral competency test for pc repair technicians. To become certified, you must pass two exams: core hardware (installing, configuring, upgrading and troubleshooting myriad hardware components) and operating systems (including DOS, Microsoft Windows 9x, NT and 2000).

Why is A+ certification important?
Technology companies regard A+ certification as an important measure of a prospective employee’s knowledge and skill level. Tested at the level of six months, hands-on experience, job candidates with certification demonstrate specific skills that most employers consider critical to the job function.

What types of jobs are available with A+ certification?
A partial list includes: pc repair technician, help desk analyst, desktop support specialist, computer specialist. Additionally many non-IT companies require A+ certification for such jobs as cable installers, postal equipment installation and repair abd telecommunications installers.

What courses do I need?
A+ certification/pc technician training can be taken in a face-to-face or online format. Upon successful completion of either the face-to-face courses or online courses, students will be prepared to take the CompTia A+ certification exam at any Prometric testing center. Continuing education units are also awarded.

Face-to-Face Format
Students with little or no pc technician experience are encouraged to enroll in the following two face-to-face courses held two evenings per week for 15 weeks (90-hours total) at the Glen Burnie Town Center. This comprehensive coursework prepares students for both CompTIA exams and real-world work as a PC technician. For those with no prior computer experience, you must complete CPT 363 - Computer Fundamentals before enrolling in NTW 512.

NTW 512 - A+ Essentials ($655)
NTW 513 - A+ Network/Deskside IT Technician  ($655)
