Kids in College and EXPLORE Faculty
Alan Hayes is the director of Simulations and Robotics for the Spaceflight Institute™ and Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Volanz Aerospace Inc. He has degrees in computer science and general science. He has been in the information technology field for over 25 years and the aerospace field for over 15 years. When Mr. Hayes is not doing simulations and robotics, he manages the Federal Aviation Administration’s Spaceflight Management Program. The Spaceflight Management Program (in cooperation with NASA) oversees the launch and landing of manned and unmanned space vehicles.
Brent Herrick is into his third year of teaching adult and youth tennis classes at AACC. He has a certified pro rating through the Professional Tennis Registry and has taught adult and youth tennis programs for more than 30 years. He has degrees in accounting and english.
This is Maurianna Huck's fourth year of teaching with the Kids in College summer camp program. She has been teaching for 14 years at various levels and holds a M.Ed. from Loyola College. She presently teaches second grade at St. Jane Frances School. Mauri is married with two children, ages six and nine. She enjoys scrapbooking and spending time with her family.
Peter Ibenana completed his B.A. in imaging and digital arts at UMBC with an emphasis in 3D computer animation. He also completed the Japanese language program at UMBC and participated in the Intercultural Living Exchange program. Peter taught computer graphics and animation at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. Currently he is teaching fine arts at Gilmore Elementary in Baltimore.
Kathy Jo Keever is a registered nurse and a certified nurse midwife. She has been a faculty member at AACC for the past eight years and teaches women’s health for the Nursing Program and Physician Assistant Program. Having raised three children and now a grandmother, she truly knows the importance of keeping individuals interested in providing health care for families. She has taught in the high schools and community regarding health care maintenance and truly enjoys passing on her almost 30 years of experience in nursing.
Bill Kelly is currently an adjunct faculty member at AACC. He holds a B.S. in electronic media and film from Towson University and a master's degree in communications from The College of Notre Dame of Maryland. This is his second summer with Kids in College.
Samantha (Sam) Klenkel is a junior at Salisbury University studying early childhood and elementary education with a creative arts minor. She has been with Kids in College for two summers now, as a senior counselor and Spider Camp instructor. Her favorite things are reading, planning adventures, scrapbooking and visiting the beach. Her favorite food is pizza.
Jordana Long, using her mad writing skills, has convinced one college and two graduate programs to accept her. As a result, she has a B.A. in English, an M.A. in English language and literature, and a M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction. Believing that all education must be good for something, she is determined to help her students find their unique voices as writers.
