Truxal Library - Audiovisual Collection

Policies for Using AV materials

  • Borrowers must present their library card at the time of transaction in order to use AV materials.
  • Borrowers are responsible for all items on their account, and subject to all related, current borrower policies in the library.
  • Use of headphones is required with all audio media played in the library.
  • Most AV media, unless specifically noted below, may only be checked out of the library by AACC faculty and staff.  Other borrowers must use materials in the Library.
  • Viewing and listening carrels are available on the 2nd floor of the Library.

Audiovisual Media

All AV materials are located on the 2nd floor of the Library, and are subject to overdue fines on student and county resident accounts.  Overdue fines are different for each type of material.

VHS tapes/DVDs in the general collection

  • Borrowing period for students and county residents is 3-hours, in-library use only.
  • Borrowing period for faculty is 7 days; borrowing period for staff is 3 days.
  • Searchable in the Library catalog by including the term “videorecording” in a basic keyword search.

Telecourse videotapes

  • Only students enrolled in, or faculty teaching a particular telecourse program can view the telecourse tapes for that course. 
  • Telecourses tapes may be viewed according to the policies outlined above for use of VHS tapes.
  • All of the videotapes for currently running telecourses are available for rental in the college bookstore.  An entire series for one course costs $33.30, of which $16.65 will be refunded if all the tapes are returned at the end of the semester.

Supplemental Instruction [SI] videotapes

  • Several series of math videotapes are available for viewing and checkout by students in specific math courses. 
  • Students may check out SI tapes from the Library for 7 days; no renewals are allowed.

Microfilm/microfiche

  • Please refer to the Library’s list of periodicals to learn which titles are archived in microfilm and microfiche format.
  • Microfilm and microfiche may only be viewed in the Library.

Foreign Language audiocassettes, CDs and videotapes

  • Collection includes titles and publications associated with AACC curriculum
  • Students may borrow audiocassettes, CDs and videos from the library for 7 days, with one renewal. 
  • County residents may use audiocassettes, CDs and videotapes in the library for 3 hours.
  • Students enrolled in some foreign language courses can order duplication of language tapes for purchase at the Circulation Desk.  Please see staff for availability and pricing.

Audiobooks on cassette and/or DVD

  • Students and county residents may check out audiobooks for 7 days.
  • Searchable in the Library catalog by selecting the material type “audiobooks and spoken word recordings” on the advanced search screen.

Audiovisual Equipment

  • Viewing and listening carrels—2nd floor of the Library
  • Laptop computers—2nd floor of the Library
  • Microfilm and microfiche readers—2nd floor of the Library
  • Text Reader/magnifyer—2nd floor of the Library
  • ADA enhanced PC—2nd floor of the Library
  • Photocopiers—2nd and 3rd floors of the Library
