Basic Medical Transcription

Anne Arundel Community College offers a 10-credit letter of recognition in Basic Medical Transcription.

Basic Medical Transcription

  • The Basic Medical Transcription letter of recognition sequence prepares students to become a medical office transcriber or entry-level agency medical transcriber in a physician's office or hospital. 
  • After completion of this sequence, students will demonstrate fluency in medical terminology and will be able to transcribe history, patient progress notes and physical reports.
  • Completion of this letter of recognition leads to eligibility to pursue the Advanced Medical Transcription letter of recognition.

 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Eligibility for ENG 111
  • Ability to type 60 words per minute


COURSE SEQUENCE

BIO-230*+ - Structure and Function of the Human Body (4)
MDA-113* - Medical Terminology (3)
MDA-222* - Basic Medical Transcription (3)

*BIO 231-232 or BIO 233-234 may be substituted for BIO-230. BIO-230 and MDA-113 are prerequisites for MDA-222.

+Students must see academic adviser or program coordinator for specified math eligibility requirements.


AWARD REQUIREMENTS

Completion of the required courses with a grade of "C" or better.
