King Breakfast Honors Local Humanitarians

Six community leaders and nine public school essay winners will be honored at the 24th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 17, at the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium at Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Arnold.
The event features as keynote speaker the Rev. Walter E. Fauntroy, founder and president of the National Black Leadership Roundtable, a network including heads of more than 200 national black organizations. He also is a former 10-term District of Columbia representative to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Award recipients are:
Philip L. Brown of Annapolis, recipient of the Annapolis Human Relations Commission Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. award;
The Rev. Dr. E. LaVern Gaither of Pasadena, recipient of the United Black Clergy of Anne Arundel County’s Leon H. White Clergy Memorial award;
George F. Johnson IV of Pasadena, one of two recipients of the Anne Arundel Coalition of Tenants Inc.’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian award;
Liz Peavy, Ed.D., of Greenbelt, recipient of the Anne Arundel Community College Black Student Union’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Zeitgeist award;
George H. Phelps Jr. of Annapolis, recipient of the Dallas G. Pace Sr. Humanitarian award of the Anne Arundel County Human Relations Commission;
Dimitri Sfakiyanudis of Annapolis, one of two recipients of the Anne Arundel Coalition of Tenants Inc.’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian award.
The breakfast also honors winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest for public school students sponsored by the Annapolis chapter of The Links Inc.
