Softball Team Selected for Leadoff Classic

Anne Arundel Community College’s women’s softball team has been selected as one of only 24 junior college softball teams in the nation to participate in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Junior College Leadoff Classic tournament March 11-13, in LaGrange, Ga.
AACC’s Pioneers have advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national championships in the last two years. The team finished fourth last season and were the top team in the nation in 2003.
The NFCA Junior College Leadoff Classic will have a round-robin format. Four teams will square off in each of six pools. The top team in each pool and two at-large teams will then compete in the Gold Championship. Second-placed teams in each pool and four at-large teams will advance to the Silver bracket, with the remaining teams competing in the Bronze bracket.
The Pioneers’ first matchup is at noon Friday, March 11, against Meridian Community College of Mississippi. The other teams in their pool are Tallahassee Community College and George C. Wallace Community College of Dothan, Ala.Last Updated: Aug 12 2005 2:38PM
