International Artist to Speak at AACC

March 4, 2005

Art

Meet an international artist and photographer at a visiting artist lecture at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 219 at Anne Arundel Community College’s Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

Connie Imboden of Baltimore is the AACC student Art Association’s spring visiting artist. Her free lecture is open to the public.

A member of the photography faculty at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Imboden has been photographing the nude exclusively for 20 years. In a statement on her Web site, Imboden said she finds the camera angle that allows the forms to “be the most that they can be -- whatever that is… it leads me on, to explore angles, space, reflections and light.” She does not manipulate the images.

Her work is represented in many museum collections throughout the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, France.

She has exhibited her work both as a solo artist and as a member of a group in galleries and museum shows around the world. Recent exhibitions include the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art in Jacksonville, Fla., the Chiaroscuro Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M. and the Patrick Waldburger Gallery in Berlin, Germany.

In addition, Imboden’s work appears in several books and publications. Her fourth monograph, “Piercing Illusions,” features work from 1998-2000.
