Earn College Credit Quickly in Intensive Two-Week Term

Oct. 20, 2006

Education

Make a New Year’s resolution to improve your education by registering for one or more credit courses offered during Anne Arundel Community College’s Winter Two-Week Term.

Three dozen short, intensive classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 2, and allow teachers, business employees, health professionals and students to quickly get needed training and advance their education. Final exams are on Jan. 12.

Students in the AACC’s Teacher Education and Child Care (TEACH) Institute can choose from any of seven education courses, including "Introduction to Early Childhood Development" (EDU 132) and "Behavior Management" (EDU 251) as well as classes focusing on special education and student psychology. All education courses are scheduled during evenings to accommodate practicing teachers’ schedules.

Those interested in sharpening their business skills, but too busy to come to campus can take advantage of several credit business telecourses including "Business and Its Environment" (BPA 111), "Small Business Management" (BPA 120) and "Marketing Principles" (BPA 125). For information call AACC’s Distance Learning Center, 410-777-2464, e-mail dlcenter@aacc.edu.

Camp counselors, fitness center workers and lifeguards can enhance their resumes in several health-related courses, from "Personal and Community Health" (HEA 111) and "Women’s Health Issues" (HEA 113 or WMS 113) to "Components of Personal Fitness and Wellness" (HEA 114), "Personal Trainer Fundamentals" (HEA 130), "First Aid and Safety -- CPR" (HEA 150) and "Lifesaving and Water Rescue" ((PHE 259).

Emergency responders can register for "Operations Level for Hazardous Materials and Weapons of Mass Destruction" (EMT 103). Those seeking work in the food service or hospitality industries can enroll in "Certification in Sanitation" (HRM 119).

General education courses such as "Fundamentals of Oral Communications" (COM 111), "Introduction to Computers" (CSI 113) or "Introduction to Sociology" (SOC 111), also are available to students who want to advance their education or to make up credits.

Travel-study, mathematics, psychology and specialty courses including "Art Portfolio Development" (ART 230), "Social Problems" (SOC 122) and "Exploring the Future" (FTR 100) round out the winter-term offerings. To learn more, pick up a fall schedule of classes on campus, at a county public library, or use the course search.

Registration is under way. Sign up on the Web at myaacc.aacc.edu or by using the STARS touch-tone phone system, 410-777-2241, from 5 a.m. to midnight daily. You can also register by mail or in person at the Arnold campus, AACC at Arundel Mills, the Glen Burnie Town Center or the Fort Meade Army Education Center.
