Sarbanes Center Gains New Director

Sept. 6, 2006

Education

Anne Arundel Community College has named the first director of its Paul S. Sarbanes Center for Public and Community Service established in January in recognition of Maryland’s longest serving U.S. senator.

Cathleen H. Doyle of Baltimore, formerly the program coordinator of AACC’s Center for Learning Through Service, was promoted to director of the Sarbanes Center. In her new role, Doyle oversees the development and content of the center, which oversees the Center for Learning Through Service, Assessment of Prior Learning, the Environmental Center and the Center for the Study of Local Issues.

Susan M. Weiner of Severna Park, formerly the placement specialist for AACC’s Center for Learning Through Service, moves to the post of program coordinator of the service-learning center.

The Sarbanes Center provides leadership and support to applied-learning activities across the college community. These activities offer students hands-on opportunities to learn through real-world experiences that can be service based, career related or research oriented.
