Classes for Home-Schooled Youth Offered at AACC

Education

Anne Arundel Community College is offering seven new noncredit continuing education courses and a popular biology class this fall to help home-schooled students supplement their education.

Included is instruction in art, computer science and technologies, English, mathematics and science. Courses are on the Arnold campus, at the Glen Burnie Town Center and at AACC at Arundel Mills in Hanover.

Become skilled in PC repair and savvy in executing software by enrolling in "PC Repair Basics" (YUT 876), $125, offered 1-3 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 28-Oct. 26, for ages 13-16, or "Software Savvy" (YUT 874), $75, offered 7-8:15 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 28-Oct. 19, for ages 12-15. Another section of YUT 874 is offered 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays, Oct. 3-17.

Youth ages 10-14 can develop their writing skills in "Composition Juxtaposition" (YUT 871), $185, offered 1-3 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 6-Dec. 1. Another course teaches students, ages 13-16, fundamentals of writing quality research papers, including data gathering and source citation. "Writing Seminar: The Research Paper" (YUT 872), $145, is offered 10 a.m.-noon Fridays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10.

Also offered are: "Dynamic Slide Shows" (YUT 875), $100, offered 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays, Oct. 24-Nov. 14, for ages 12-15; "Biological Explorations" (YOT 865), $215, offered 1-4 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10, for ages 12-16; "Mastering Algebra" (YUT 870), $145, offered 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 3-Nov. 21, for ages 12-15; and "Art Masterpieces" (YUT 873), $160, offered 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays, Oct. 3-Nov. 7, for ages 9-12.

The Arnold campus is at 101 College Parkway. Glen Burnie Town Center classes are at the Arundel Center North, 101 Crain Highway and AACC at Arundel Mills is at 7009 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover. Costs listed are for county residents; there is an additional charge of $5 per noncredit course for residents of other counties and an additional $10 per noncredit course charge for out-of-state residents.

Registration is under way. To avoid cancellations, register at least 10 days before the start of any class. Current and returning students can register using the Internet at myaacc.aacc.edu or the STARS touch-tone phone system at 410-777-2241 from 5 a.m. to midnight daily. New students or those without access to the Internet can sign up by mail, fax or in person at the Arnold campus, AACC at Arundel Mills, AACC at the Glen Burnie Town Center or the Fort Meade Army Education Center.
