Anne Arundel Community College's Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute recently was named runner-up in a national contest sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education.
The Leadership Initiative Award for Excellence in Foodservice Education, sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission, is given to a postsecondary school individual or program that exhibits innovation, initiatives and proven results in culinary, baking and pastry education.
HCAT's application was based on its International Culinary Internship program in Italy.
For 10 weeks each summer, students live on the Amalfi coast of Italy and work in the area's finest hotels and restaurants. The program is kept affordable and covers nearly all of a student's needs with housing and transportation arrangements included. Scholarships also are available to offset costs.
As runner-up, HCAT receives $300 and complimentary registration to the 2007 CAFE Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., in June. For information on the college's HCAT program, visit their Web site.
