Baltimore Photographer to Give Lecture at AACC

May 9, 2007

Education/Lecture

Baltimore's Jack Radcliffe will be on hand to share his insights into fine art and documentary photography at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Anne Arundel Community College.

The free talk, part of the college student Art Association's lecture series, takes place in Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 219 on the Arnold campus.

Radcliffe has photographed subjects in the greater Baltimore area for years. Recent exhibits include "The Many Faces of Pain in Palliative Care," Falls Church, Va., 2006; a solo show in Spain in 2005, "De Cote de Chez Jack Radcliffe" and "Hospice: A Photographic Inquiry," Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., in 1996.

Radcliffe devotes much of his energy to creating documentary-style series on families as subjects and on singular subjects, such as his neighbor or a former student. The compassion and sensitivity with which he approaches his subjects is apparent in his work.

In 2000, Radcliffe won the New York Times nomination for the World Press Award's "Picture of the Year." Fellowships and awards include Baltimore city arts grants in 1991 and 1992 and a Maryland State Arts Council Grant in 1991. He taught as associate professor of photography at Harford Community College from 1974-2003.

Radcliffe earned a master's degree in sociology from University of Maryland College Park and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Grove City College in Pennsylvania.
