Six AACC Student-Athletes Net Memorial Awards

Anne Arundel Community College honored six successful student-athletes at the annual Athletics Awards Ceremony.

The 2006-2007 memorial award winners are Brandon Abney and Zach Krisoff of Annapolis, Duane Herr and Kristine Schaefer of Glen Burnie, Courtney Highsmith of Crofton and Kristie Hurman of Pasadena.

A Broadneck High School graduate majoring in general studies, Abney won the Dr. Andrew G. Truxal Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete in the Graduating Class for his performance on the men’s basketball team. He also won All-Region first-team honors.

Krisoff is an Annapolis High School graduate majoring in general studies. The goalie won the Dr. David S. Jenkins Award for the Outstanding Male Athlete for his performance on the men’s lacrosse team and earned All-Region honors.

A graduate of Glen Burnie High School majoring in general studies, Herr won the Dr. John S. Laycock Award for Male Scholar Athlete for his performance on the men’s baseball team. He is a two-year letter winner with a grade point average of more than 3.5.

Schaefer, a Glen Burnie High School graduate majoring in general studies, won the Dr. Andrew G. Truxal Award for the Outstanding Female Athlete in the Graduating Class for her performance on the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. She won All-America goalie honors in 2006.

A South River High School graduate majoring in general studies, Highsmith won the William W. Evans Award for Female Scholar Athlete. She played on the women’s soccer and lacrosse teams. Named to the All-America first team in 2006, Highsmith is a two-sport letter winner and earned a grade point average of more than 3.5.

Hurman, a graduate of Chesapeake High School who is majoring in general education, won the Louis L. Siegert Award for the Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year for her performance on the women’s softball team. She was named to the All-America first team in 2006 and set the national strikeout record for a single season.

AACC supports a comprehensive program of intercollegiate athletic competition for men and women, including baseball, basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball. A member of the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference, AACC also is in the Region XX of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
