Free Tickets and Bus Ride to Orioles Game

Jul. 20., 2007

Education

To kick off its fall recruitment campaign, the Educational Talent Search program at Anne Arundel Community College has teamed up with the Baltimore Orioles to offer eligible students a bases-loaded, home-run incentive to join the ETS roster.

Those who sign up with ETS by Aug. 13 will receive free tickets, bus transportation, food and souvenirs for the Aug. 20 Orioles game against the Texas Rangers. This is the first of many activities and field trips available to ETS participants.

The program is open to students entering sixth through 12th grade who live in neighborhoods within the Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Meade or North County public high school feeder systems.

ETS is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and operates in cooperation with AACC. It targets students in middle and high schools who meet income limits and could benefit from counseling and mentoring to prepare for college and a career. ETS participants have opportunities to explore multiple careers through field trips, guest speakers and visits to nearby colleges.

An ETS adviser works with the student and the school to pick courses to help prepare them for college. ETS has an adviser in each middle school and high school in the Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Meade and North County public school feeder systems.

Schools include Annapolis High, Annapolis Middle, Bates Middle; North County High, Brooklyn Park Middle, Lindale Middle; Glen Burnie High, Corkran Middle, Marley Middle; Meade High, MacArthur Middle and Meade Middle. Students can enter the program at any time during grades six to 12.

For information about the program or to sign up, contact ETS at 410-777-2814 or visit the new First2College Web site.
