Golfers of All Skill Levels Can Improve Scores at AACC

Jul. 13, 2007

Education/Sports

Whether you dream of escaping the golf sand trap on the first shot, desperately need to improve your game or are ready to learn the basics of this sport, Anne Arundel Community College has an affordable golf class for you.

There's still time to sign up for summer continuing education classes taught by Barry Root, a certified golf instructor. Classes last only one to four sessions so golfers can quickly hit the greens to show off their new skills.

Those with experience on the greens can attend one-session Wednesday specialty classes that focus on specific areas needing improvement. "Golf -- Woods" (ATC 321) offers instruction July 25 on using fairway woods and the driver to improve distance and accuracy. "Golf -- Sand Play" (ATC 322) offers tips on Aug. 1 on escaping the trap and playing around green side and fairway bunkers. On July 18, "Golf -- Hitting the Scoring Irons" (ATC 323), covers the pitch shot and improving your game from 125 yards and in from the green.

The three specialty classes meet at Severna Park Golf Center from 10-11:30 a.m. and cost $23 each.

"Golf for Beginners" (AHL 397) covers the basic of the sport, course etiquette, proper set up, putting, irons, woods and trouble shots. The $77 class meets 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Choose from three sessions: July 17-Aug. 7, July 18-Aug. 8 or Aug. 14-Sept. 4. The class takes place at the Arnold campus and costs $77.

"Intermediate Golf" (ATC 302) offers continuing golfers help correcting the quirks of their game, improving putting, eliminating slices and more. The $77 class meets Thursdays. Choose from a 10:30 a.m.-noon class July 19-Aug. 16 or 6-7:30 p.m. class Aug. 9-30. Golfers must bring a nine-iron, putter and ball to the first class on the Arnold campus.

Registration is under way by phone, online, mail, fax or in person. Call 410-777-2325 or go to recreg.
