Appointments

Anne Arundel Community College has appointed Carrie Leary of Dunkirk as director of the new AACC CyberCenter effective July 1.

“The creation of the CyberCenter is an indication of AACC’s commitment to promote cybersecurity awareness and provide knowledge and skills to those individuals seeking to advance their current career, as well as to those individuals preparing for new careers in cybersecurity,” Leary said.

For the past year, she served as assistant professor in AACC’s Computer Technologies Department. Leary joined AACC with a wealth of experience in global IT consulting and business management. As an international consultant, she advised clients on aligning their IT strategies and performed executive leadership training for organizations of all sizes. She also has taught math and business education courses in Anne Arundel County high schools.

AACC’s award-winning, state-of-the-art Information and Cyber Security program offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, certificate and stand-alone courses that prepare students for positions in the cybersecurity field as well as for transfer to four-year institutions. AACC was the first community college certified by the National Security Agency and the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) to map courses to the 4011 standard and its courses also map to the 4013 standard.

NSA and the Department of Homeland Security have designated AACC as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance 2-Year Education (CAE2Y). This designation covers academic years 2010 through 2015.

Leary earned a Master of Business Administration in Information Technology and International Business from American University in Washington, D.C., a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., as well as numerous industry and cybersecurity certifications.
