Anne Arundel Community College is hosting a brief ceremony at 4:15 p.m. today, Oct. 28, to rededicate its renovated Louis L. Siegert Field and running/walking track on the Arnold campus.
The 15-minute ceremony will take place on the track; two men’s soccer teams will be warming up on the field for the 5 p.m. start of the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association Division 3 Region 20 and District F Men’s Soccer Tournament.
As part of the ceremony, Maryland House of Delegates Speaker Michael E. Busch will be thanked for his leadership in helping secure state funding for the project. College officials will present him with a soccer ball, which was signed by members of both the AACC men’s and women’s soccer teams, to throw or kick out to waiting AACC players to symbolically reopen the field.
The tournament features play at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. today by teams from Anne Arundel Community College, Howard Community College, Montgomery College, Potomac State College and Prince George’s Community College. The championship game will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, on the field.
The college closed the field and walking/running track for the summer for the project. The state funding awarded to AACC in fiscal year 2009 enabled the college to upgrade the field to NJCAA standards. The playing field is now 240 feet wide by 360 feet long (not including the rounded ends).
For information, call AACC’s Interim Director of Public Relations Laurie Farrell at 410-777-7253 or the Athletics office at 410-777-2300.
