Anne Arundel Community College awarded Certificates of Valor to AACC Police Academy students Linwood Alston, Jena Hatfield and Zeb Rohrback for their roles in rescuing a man whose car had overturned into a storm water retention pond in Lanham on the cold night of Nov. 2. The three, all recruits in the AACC Police Academy, heard the accident and saw the car flip over. They were stopped at a light and two of them – Hatfield and Rohrback – ran across the highway to respond while the third parked the car and called 911. The passenger had freed himself, but said he couldn’t find the driver. Rohrback and Hatfield jumped into the mud and water, found the driver and held him above the waist-deep water while Alson helped keep the car from moving until the paramedics and fire department personnel arrived and could free the man, who was pinned partway underneath the car.
