Nov. 12, 2010
Community

Increase your metabolism, boost your self-esteem and race to win a turkey for Thanksgiving at the Anne Arundel Community College 22nd Annual 5K Turkey Trot and One-Mile Jaunt.

The events both begin at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Siegert Field on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

First place 5K finishers can win a free turkey for achieving the fastest time in their race category or for accurately predicting how fast they will run their race. Runners-up earn a selection of holiday pies, gift cards, free personal training sessions, gym memberships and more. The One-Mile Jaunt is a noncompetitive, family-friendly event.

Both events begin and end on the Siegert Field track. The 5K run follows a moderately hilly, well-marked course around the campus perimeter. There are timed categories for individuals and closest predicted time for individual and doubles team categories. Each member of a doubles team must complete a separate race entry form.

The registration fee for the 5K race is $18 for individuals and $30 for doubles teams. The One-Mile Jaunt has a flat $10 entry fee. Race proceeds benefit the fitness center in the David S. Jenkins Gymnasium. Runners and their supporters are encouraged to bring canned goods and nonperishable items to the event for donation to Food Link, a local charity.
