Learn Spanish in Puerto Rico through AACC Travel Study

Nov. 12, 2010

Spend a month in Puerto Rico in summer 2010 and earn six college credits through a new Spanish immersion travel-study experience offered through Anne Arundel Community College.

Trip dates are June 28-July 21. This total Spanish immersion experience offers students a choice of two out of three courses taught at the University of Sacred Heart (Universidad del Sagrado Corazón), the oldest private educational institution in Puerto Rico.

The classes are “Elementary Spanish I: Travel-Study in Puerto Rico” (SPA 191), “Elementary Spanish 2: Travel-Study in Puerto Rico” (SPA 192) and “Caribbean Culture” (SPA 123). Prior to taking SPA 192, participants must have completed “Elementary Spanish 1” (SPA 111) or have completed one year of high school Spanish or obtain permission from the AACC World Languages department chair. The “Caribbean Culture” class provides an overview of Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Latin American cultures with a special emphasis on political, economical and social issues.

The $3,380 registration fee (approximate) includes airfare, access to university facilities, dorm housing on campus, sight-seeing excursions and cultural field trips on the island, an official transcript, I.D. card, tuition and fees for two, three-credit AACC classes. The credits will transfer back to AACC. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15.
