Education

Laura E. Weidner, Ph.D., dean of workforce development at Anne Arundel Community College., was selected as an Exemplar Award recipient by the North American Council for Staff, Program and Organizational Development.

Weidner, a Severna Park, Md. resident, has directed the college’s workforce development, contract training and outreach to business and industry since February 2006 and served as a college administrator since 1998.

Key to her nomination for the award was the research associated with community college leadership issues that she completed with Terry O’Banion, Ph.D., president emeritus and senior league fellow with the League for Innovation in the Community College and director of Walden University’s Community College Leadership Program. Weidner earned her doctorate in the Walden program; Dr. O’Banion served as her adviser and faculty mentor.

They recently co-delivered a keynote address on community college innovation at the 2010 national League for Innovation in the Community College conference and have published numerous articles on the subject of innovation in the community college. Weidner has presented more than 50 workshops and presentations at state, regional, national and international conferences.
