AACC Closes Four of Six Tennis Courts

March 31, 2011
Community/Sports

Anne Arundel Community College is closing four of its six Arnold campus tennis courts in April for at least 16 months in connection with its $21.9 million Andrew G. Truxal Library renovation and addition project.

The courts, which are open to community use when not occupied by AACC classes, will temporarily be covered by a modular unit to house the library’s collection of more than 140,000 books, more than 200 periodicals and an audiovisual collection of about 10,000 items. Site work on the tennis courts to accommodate the modular unit will start after April 4. The unit installation will begin in May, and library materials and staff will move to the modular building in late July.

All library services, including research assistance, circulation of materials and library instructional programs will remain available within the new temporary building. Student services such as tutoring, honors offices, Student Achievement and Success Program and the reading department have been temporarily relocated to Annex A and B near the Astronomy Lab. Veteran’s services have moved to the Careers Center.

The project timeline calls for completion of the library renovation and addition in August 2012; however, it is possible that the temporary buildings will remain longer. The college will keep the public informed on its website www.aacc.edu/library/renovation. For tennis court information, call 410-777-2614 or e-mail events@aacc.edu.
