AACC Receives 100 Percent Pass Rate for Police Audit

August 24, 2011
Education

For the second year in a row, Anne Arundel Community College’s Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Police Academy degree and certificate programs received a 100 percent pass rate at a recent audit by the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commissions (MPCTC).

Tyrone Powers, Ph.D., director of the Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Institute, said part of the MPCTC audit is questioning faculty and staff about specific aspects of the program.  Auditors examined the instruction and testing records of over 700 training objectives for 28 academy students. The auditors applauded several new initiatives including a new testing procedure designed on the Angel online format that improves test scoring accuracy; provides immediate feedback to students; and monitors and ensures integrity in testing.

Another area that sets the AACC program apart from others is that AACC requires 100 percent mastery of all 700 objectives. The MPCTC only requires 70 percent mastery. All faculty and staff of the institute were available to answer questions and address concerns. As part of the audit, the MPCTC approved the start of AACC’s next Academy class.

The AACC program is unique, as it allows enrolled students to pursue MPCTC certification while obtaining college credits. Historically, close to 90 percent of the students that complete the program are eventually employed in a police agency. AACC is meticulous in its preparation of a future generation of police officers. The 100 percent pass on the audit verifies the high level of quality and attention to detail in AACC’s Police Academy program.
