AACC Partner Pairs Students with Jobs Before Training

Aug. 22, 2014

Anne Arundel Community College is partnering this year with WorkAmerica to provide career training in specific industries, such as commercial truck driving, HVAC installation and welding. The commercial driver’s license (CDL) is approved training for veterans.

WorkAmerica is an organization that secures jobs for students before they start their training, giving them the peace of mind that they will be able to earn a paycheck after completing training.

Securing employment ahead of training is unique with WorkAmerica, which works with employers and colleges to help unemployed or under-qualified people start a new career. WorkAmerica connects employers with students either before students begin training or shortly after they enroll. The employer screens and interviews applicants and chooses employees, based on successful completion of training. This allows the student to know who their employer will be before beginning training.

AACC offers more than 100 continuing education certificates to students who successfully complete a course or series of courses that result in improved skills or technical knowledge. In addition, the college has worked with business partners to provide professional licensure or certification in a number of fields.
