Free Tax Service at AACC

Jan. 17, 2019

Hate doing your own taxes? You’re in luck! You might qualify for the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through Anne Arundel Community College’s School of Business and Law.

In the program, IRS-certified volunteers – faculty, community members, alumni and students – provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals with $55,000 or less of annual income in 2018.

The program will process both federal and state returns by appointment only from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 13 through April 3, in the Careers Center Room 326 at 101 College Parkway, Arnold. The site will be closed March 20 and 23 for spring break.

“The volunteers go through a pretty rigorous process,” said Michael P. Gavin, site coordinator and assistant professor in business administration at the college. He volunteered with the program last year and enjoyed it so much, he stepped up to lead it this year.

Gavin said they’re ready for the recent changes to tax law and the confusion they might bring. “What you knew about taxes over the past few years is a little different now,” he said. “Some will benefit and some will not.”

To schedule an appointment, view their calendar. For details call 410-777-2390 or email VITA@aacc.edu.
