Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) offers an array of services for nontraditional students.
At AACC you have many opportunities to connect with staff who appreciate the various roles and responsibilities you assume each day. We understand the issues facing you as well as your concerns. We know that adult students often feel unprepared to compete with younger students in the classroom. Adult students have many competing priorities and may feel extracurricular activities are a burden. However, students who attend class but leave campus without forming supportive relationships may exit the college without achieving their goals.

Our services are offered in a variety of formats and at various times throughout the day.
- Advising services are available in the Counseling, Advising and Retention Services office (CARS). Because CARS staff members understand adult students have varied schedules, the office provides services during the day, in the evening, on weekends, online and via the web. Various retention services allow you to connect with faculty members, your advisor, a tutor or a fellow student.
- Student Life offers you an opportunity to become involved in student clubs or attend entertaining programs. Many of our academic clubs are appealing to adult students because of the networking opportunities and the convenient times activities are offered. We know that you are busy and have little free time to pursue campus activities, however many of the programs and events are enjoyable for the whole family. Drive-in movies, theatrical plays, the Dance Company performances, sporting events, and concerts are a few of the programs available to you and your family. Drop into the Student Life office or contact them at 410-777-2218 to learn more about joining or starting a club to meet your needs.
- The Displaced Homemaker Program, The Second Act (PDF), offers support and limited funding based on your qualifications and availability. You may be eligible for help with training or tuition costs, a childcare stipend and transportation reimbursement. You may also qualify for books and supplies. Contact the Second Act Office at 410-777-1161.
- AACC is one of the few community colleges in Maryland offering childcare services and a nationally accredited educational program for children.
- Online Services - you can access the library, the online advisor, tutoring, your AACC e-mail, registration, your academic advisor and many more services online. If you are considering an online course contact Distance Learning to see if you have what it takes to successfully complete an online course.
- As you juggle your daily commitments along with classes, relaxation becomes important to your overall well-being. The Health Services office offers stress relief activities and a relaxation room. Stress reduction techniques, aromatherapy, nutrition and exercise information are available to all students.
Contact the Center for Adult Learners for more information on course formats, course scheduling and services that may be attractive to you. Whether you decide to attend full time or part time, we have a variety of course formats to meet your needs.
