Orientation: Welcome from Dr. Martha A. Smith

We know what the right time is: this is the information age, its the age of the knowledge-based economy, it's the age of the knowledge worker. All of that is to say that "knowledge and information" is the number one commodity and the number one skill and ability that people need to have in order to be successful is the ability to learn. And we do that very, very well here at Anne Arundel Community College. That's why you are in the right place at the right time.

We know that we do it well because we collect data on the success of our students. When they transfer to 4-year colleges and universities, they do on average better than students who began there as freshmen. Our allied health graduates have pass-rates on their licensure exams well above national and state averages. And when we ask the employers of our graduates how they feel our students have been prepared, they rate them very highly. And when we ask the graduates themselves to tell us about their preparation for transfer or for the world of work, they tell us they feel very very prepared and they would do it all over again.

Our students are so well-prepared because we have an excellent faculty and staff. They are very talented, highly credentialed, and dedicated to student's success. So, once again, welcome to Anne Arundel Community College. You are definitely in the right place at the right time.

Martha A. Smith, Ph.D., President
