Orientation: Welcome from Dr. Dawn Lindsay

AACC is the right place at the right time for you.

Hi. My name is Dr. Dawn Lindsay and I am president of Anne Arundel Community College. I am so pleased to welcome you to your new college. I want you to know that in selecting AACC, you have made an excellent choice for pursuing your educational goals. We provide you with a wealth of academic and support services that are designed to not only enhance your learning experience, but foster your full potential as a student. You can be assured that every faculty and staff member here is committed to helping you achieve your highest level of success. In return, we ask only two things. We ask that you work hard. And we ask that you take advantage of the many free resources and services AACC offers. We can help you identify and set your goals, explore career choices and access financial aid. If you're having trouble writing a paper or need some help in math or another class, we offer one-on-one tutoring and academic advising as well as math and writing labs.

Now let me tell you a little more about your new college. AACC is the third largest community college in the state of Maryland. You are joining 53,000 fellow AACC students. We offer nearly 100 programs of study that lead to an associate degree or certificate. Whenever we ask our students what is most important to them, and what they rate highest at AACC, our faculty and quality of instruction is number one. Because our faculty loves what they do, they will give you real-world skills that will help you now and in the future. In addition to Maryland schools, our students transfer to four-year institutions in more than 30 states. Once they transfer, they perform academically as well – or better – than their peers who enrolled in four-year schools in Maryland as freshmen. We have been named a military-friendly institution by G.I. Magazine for the fourth year in a row for the wide variety of support services we provide to military and veteran students. 70 percent of our students stay in Anne Arundel County to live and work, and contribute back to this great community we all share.

And if you're thinking we're all work and no play…be sure to check out AACC's Student Life. You can get involved in a club or an interesting activity. If you have a flare for performing, why not audition for one of AACC's plays? If playing sports is what you enjoy, then try out for one of our winning athletic teams. No matter what you choose to do, I encourage you to get involved. Studies show that students who spend the most time on campus are more successful. So get to know your college. Participate in Student Life. Take advantage of the many resources and services. And spend some time in our beautiful, newly renovated library where you'll find enthusiastic staff ready to help you, plenty of comfortable seating, loads of computers and even a fireplace. So on behalf of Anne Arundel Community College, I want to say again how glad we are to have you here. Have a very successful year and I look forward to seeing you around AACC!
