Opera AACC presents The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi and Amahl and the Night Visitors, two notable works by Gian Carlo Menotti. The Death of the Bishop of Brindisi (1963) describes a dying bishop's guilt-ridden recollection of the Children's Crusade, during which he questions the purpose and limitations of his own power. Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors (1951), is the first opera specifically composed for television in America. It has become one of the most performed operas of all time, as well as a holiday classic.
Baritone Robert Cantrell joins Opera AACC in the title role as the Bishop and also sings Balthazar in Amahl. AACC faculty members Mary Anne Barcellona sings the role of the Nun and the Mother and Anna Binneweg conducts. Also performing is the All Children's Chorus of Annapolis.
