Prior Learning Assessment

Anne Arundel Community College recognizes that there are many opportunities to gain knowledge outside of the traditional classroom.  Can you get college credit for this experience?  Read on...

AACC understands the value of experiential/prior learning gained by adult students outside the classroom.  If you have gained skills and knowledge from:

  • Work experience
  • Seminars/Workshops/Training
  • Noncredit college courses
  • Independent study
  • Military service
  • Community activities
  • Hobbies
  • Volunteer activities

you could receive college credit for prior learning by completing one or more portfolios and having them assessed by AACC faculty who have expertise in the disciplines.  Portfolio Assessment of prior learning is available in selected disciplines offered by the college, including:

  • Architecture
  • Business
  • Engineering Technologies
  • Human Services & Gerontology

The college follows the guidelines for prior learning by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL).  Visit the CAEL Web site at: http://www.cael.org/.
