The courses in this program are ideal for the novice with a technical aptitude wanting to delve into app development. Students will be introduced to skills in HTML5 and CSS3, as well as JavaScript, for designing, building and optimizing cross-platform mobile apps that are fast and run on just about any smartphone, tablet or computer.

What is the job outlook?

Overall, employment of computer software engineers and programmers is projected to increase by 21 percent through 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. Smart phones and other mobile devices have become an integral part of the business environment, increasing the necessity of integrating current computer systems with new mobile technology. The average salary of software application developers in Maryland is approximately $94,000 per year.

What is the training?

The training consists of four noncredit courses, each lasting six weeks. Courses are online and cover the basic knowledge needed to begin creating mobile applications compatible with most platforms using JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3.

OLA-358 Introduction to CSS3 and HTML5

What will I earn?

Upon successful completion, students earn an AACC continuing education certificate. To receive the certificate, submit a Student Application for a Continuing Education Certificate to the Technology Training office.

$528 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees

What are the requirements?

Students must be at least 16 years old with basic computer and internet experience.  A basic aptitude for programming is necessary, but HTML and/or programming experience is not required.
