This 17-hour course is designed for beginning riders who have little or no riding experience. It includes seven hours of classroom and 10 hours of riding instruction on the basic riding skills and strategies necessary to practice street riding. It covers responsible riding, proper riding gear and defensive riding strategies. Students practice clutch-throttle control, stopping, turning, shifting and basic crash avoidance skills. Instructors are certified by both the Motor Vehicle Administration and Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
DRV 500 – Motorcycle Safety/Licensure Review
The handbook will be handed out at walk-in registration. If you register by other means after walk-in registration, please take your receipt to one of the registration sites or the AACC Bookstore to obtain a copy of the handbook.
Other registration sites include the Glen Burnie Town Center and AACC at Arundel Mills.
Students with out-of-state licenses will receive an MVA card but not a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
The course now requires that you must take and successfully complete an online eCourse to prepare for the riding portion of your course. Once registered, you will receive an email with an attached letter listing your coupon code for the online course (the cost of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course is included in your course fee). The eCourse covers all of the material in the Basic Rider Course Handbook 1.0 and will prepare you for your first riding session. If you do not have access to a computer, you are welcome to use our computer labs.
After successfully completing the eCourse, print out a copy of your certificate and bring it with you to class. You will not be permitted to ride unless you have provided proof of successful completion of the eCourse.
Riders who pass will receive a Maryland Motorcycle Safety Program Completion Card and are eligible to receive their Class M license at the MVA. There is no guarantee that an individual enrolling in this course will pass or get his or her license.
