The concept of a bridge program is not new. Across the nation, colleges and universities provide similar programs to reduce attrition and increase retention and graduation rates for students in need. Some institutions offer residential programs to acclimate students to college life. Others focus exclusively on academic rigor and remediation. Documentation shows that, in most cases, bridge programs do improve the students' ability to succeed. As a result, they have gained widespread acceptance.
