Surgical Technology

Anne Arundel Community College is pleased to offer a new degree program. Completion of the 66-credit Surgical Technology program will result in the award of an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.

The Surgical Technology program will seek initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The Surgical Technology A.A.S. degree program prepares students for employment as entry-level surgical technologists in hospitals, surgical centers, and other health care industries. It trains graduates to prepare an operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions; prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites; transport patients to the operating room and observe vital signs; check charts; and assist the surgical team with their sterile gowns and gloves. The program prepares graduates for the Surgical Technologists national certification examination.
