All our PCs have built-in CD burners; writeable CDs are available at the College bookstore. Please check out zip drives at the front desk.

- What can I do if I have a Mac at home and want to work on my document at school? Learn the extensions for documents and save them so they can be used on both computers: .doc = a Microsoft Word document, .rtf = rich text file, .qxd = a Quark document, .psd = a Photoshop document, and .ai = an Illustrator document. Example: If your file is called "tlclab" and it is a word document, be sure to save it as tlclab.doc.
- My computer at home has Microsoft Works or WordPerfect on it and I saved a file I want to now open and change at school or print at school - what do I do? If you are still at home, save the file in Rich Text Format (.rtf). Go to File, Save As, and change the type of file to Rich Text Format. Then bring it to the TLC and open it in Word. If you are in the TLC, there are text converters. Open the Microsoft Word program and then go to File and Open. In Open, at the bottom, there is a dropdown box. Select the Works or WordPerfect version you have at home. If you are not sure, please choose the different versions until the file you need shows in the larger Open Window and then select it.
- What software programs does the TLC have? Please see the TLC Software & Hardware page.
- Are you ADA accessible? Do you have ADA software? What type of ADA hardware do you have? Yes, we are located on the first floor of the Andrew Truxal Library which is equipped with handicap access doors. We have special software on two (2) computers: Jaws, which reads the screen to those with needs of vision accessibility, and Dragon Naturally Speaking, which allows one to use a microphone to speak into the computer. After training the software to recognize your voice, the computer will type what you say onto the screen. Headphones with microphones are available at the front desk. We also have the PCs raised for easy access to the floppy drives and we have lowering and raising keyboards.
