9. Can I transfer into any major?

Usually the minimum grade point average to qualify to transfer is a 2.0 for students who have completed an AA or AS. However, in some limited enrollment programs your grade point average will need to be higher. A higher grade point average will provide you with many more opportunities and possibilities to transfer.

10. What is the maximum number of credits I can transfer?

Generally, four-year institutions will award transfer credit for one-half of the baccalaureate program but not more than 70 credits.

11. What is an articulated program?

Articulations are agreements developed between Anne Arundel Community College and four-year institutions for the purpose of maximizing the number of credits students can transfer. Each articulation agreement specifies how the coursework taken at Anne Arundel applies to the baccalaureate degree program at the four-year institution.  Please consult with an academic adviser or the college catalog for a list of current articulated programs.

12. What is a dual enrollment program?

A dual enrollment program allows a student to be enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College and a four-year school simultaneously.  Currently, Anne Arundel has dual enrollment agreements with the University of Maryland University College and with Governors State University in Illinois.

13. What resources are available to assist transfer students?

The Academic Advising Center at Anne Arundel Community College offers a variety of events and workshops at the Arnold campus and at off-campus sites to assist the transfer student. Workshops PDF include: How to Choose a Transfer College, How to Transfer to University System of Maryland Schools, and Transfer Day, as well as informational fairs both on and off campus. Career and Transfer Resource Center resources include a library of current catalogs from local and regional four-year institutions, College Source software to access catalogs for any institution in the United States, access to online sites, and VISIONS software for college search and exploration.

14. Is it to my advantage to complete an associate degree before I transfer?

Maryland community college students who have completed the associate degree or who have completed 56 semester hours of credit with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher shall not be denied direct transfer to a Maryland public four-year institution.

15. If I transfer prior to completing program requirements can I still earn an associate degree from Anne Arundel Community College?

Yes! You may transfer up to 18 credit hours that are applicable to your program back to Anne Arundel College to fulfill your graduation requirements.

16. What should I do I my courses do not transfer as I expected?

A student who believes that a receiving institution has denied appropriate transfer credit should contact the receiving institution's transfer coordinator within 20 working days of receiving the denial of credit to submit an appeal for reconsideration.  If the appeal is denied, the student may request that the transfer coordinator of the sending institution intercede.  A complete explanation of the appeal process and student's rights is found in the Student Transfer Policy in the appendix of the catalog.
